Easy Cheesy Curry Popcorn + A Craft



A few years ago, I was going through a “thing” (this was pre-OPP). I don’t even really remember what my dark cloud was about, but one of the only things that made me feel a better was watching movies and eating my husband’s famous curry-flavored popcorn. After I changed my diet and started stuffing my face full of as many greens as possible, I sort of forgot about his special popcorn concoction. But this weekend, I was watching a movie and had a flashback of my old fave snack. So I decided to bring it back, but with a little twist…nutritional yeast!

Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast, so don’t let the word “yeast” scare you. It is an incredible source of Vitamin B and can be used in sauces, soups, and even on nacho pizza…anything you want to add a cheesy vibe to. It can be found in the bulk section of most Whole Foods, packaged up in the vitamin section, or at lots of places online.



I’ve always thought it was sort of gross the way that everyone seems to be cool digging their hands into the same bowl of popcorn. I’m a germaphobe like that. So I love serving it in individual bags (plain old brown paper lunch sacks), just dressed up a little.  Some of my most favorite art in my house is on my book covers. I buy a decent amount of book based on the cover alone - I may or may not have even read them.

I take my favorites and color-copy them, cut them out, attach the images to little lunch sacks with double-stick tape, and trim the tops of the bags. And if book covers aren’t your thing, try using movie poster art or your favorite photos. It makes for a great little party favor or a nice surprise for a movie night in with your beau/lady-friend.





{ Easy Cheesy Curry Popcorn }
Makes 17 cups

3/4 cup popcorn
3 tablespoons olive oil, separated
1 teaspoon curry powder
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
Salt and pepper to taste

In a large pot (that has a lid), combine 2 tablespoons of oil and your popcorn kernels. Turn heat to medium-high and, as kernels start to pop, put on the lid and shake the pot every few seconds to keep the popcorn from burning. When there is at least 5 seconds in between each pop and all your corn is finished doing its thing, remove from heat.

Toss in remaining oil and coat popcorn throughly. I like to use salad mixers for this. Add your curry and nutritional yeast and combine. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve in a big bowl or individual bags. YUM!
